The February, 2023 edition of the US Naval Institute Proceedings has an article with implications for the coast guards of many smaller nations forced to deal with state supported theft of their natural resources (China we are looking at you).
Maybe it is time to bring back net cutters.

I was deeply involved in putting net cutters on USCG assets – ACUSHNET, STORIS and ALEX HALEY all got them. Never used in anger, and all that gear has long been removed.
e.g. ships in Alaska. Never needed because of effective enforcement of US exclusive rights to EEZ.
