WorkBoat reports on four different patrol boats from three different manufacturers, being made for the Navy, Santa Barbara (CA) Harbor Patrol, and the Palm Beach (FL) County Sheriff’s Department.
They are very different boats, but each has interesting characteristics.
Thanks to Eaglespeak for bringing this to my attention.
Another different sort of patrol boat, e.g. interceptor.

That is quite the article and it was good to see how things have improved an hopefully will continue to do so.
I really like the emphasis on crew comfort. That is something we surely never had back in my day. On the Gallatin, we had a 19′ RHI without even any protection from the sun, let alone heat or AC available.
Along those lines, we had a 50/50 chance of having a working VHF handheld even when we were in sight of the ship. It’s great to see that all boast now have a full NAV suite on them and that the bar has been raised. I know they’ve been in place for a while, but after reading this article, it reminded me of how little we had back in the day, which for me was 87-92, especially on cutter boats. The 41’s and 44’s had decent electronics but beyond that it was an unstandardized crapshoot.
