A week after Aiviq arrived at Tampa Ship LLC in Florida a new set of photos shows the vessel fully repainted in U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker red. The transom at the stern of the ship reveals the vessel’s likely new name: Storis.
It goes on to observe that while the hull number, 21, is in sequence with that of USCGC Healy (WAGB-20).
There are some parallels between this ship and HMS Protector. Like on Protector, I expect the helicopter deck will be relocated.
Thanks to our icebreaker expert Tups for bringing this to my attention.

wow that looks like fun what with the big unable slide on the bow. Wheee!!
New paint looks nice but given her history one wonders how the fuel tank vents are currently routed.
She served two seasons (21-22, 22-23) supporting the Australians antarctic mission, a full decade after she encountered problems while towing Kulluk.
I’m relatively confident the USCG is fully knowledgeable about the issues encountered towing Kulluk, considering they conducted the investigation into the incident, over a decade ago.
“A floating mass of closely crowded icebergs and floes”
OK, not a bad name for an icebreaker
Midrats – with Sal from “CDR Salamander” and EagleOne from “EagleSpeak” did a 1hr podcast titled: Episode 708: The Icebreaker Imperative, with Peter Rybski – They covered a lot about Coast Guard icebreakers but I really wished they had a Coast Guard spokesperson vs. a Navy retired CDR speaking about icebreaker woes. The CDR did give an interesting perspective from his time as an attaché officer to Finland and his interaction with the COMDT back in 2017 and other CG Leaders. I think they got some things wrong though, especially how the political congress critters basically have been forcing AIVIQ down the CG’s throat for the past 10 years (starting with that corrupt convicted congress critter Duncan Hunter (note, he got lots of campaign contributions from the owners of AIVIQ and he was on a committee in Congress that got a lot of time in front of the CG and he tried way back when to get the CG to take that ship. Anyway, I like listening to Midrats but I really do wish they would do a follow-up with a CG rep on the icebreaker issue. Forget about talking to the COMDT though, she’s got major problems with other things going on and I’m sure icebreakers is low on her priority list right now these days. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-708-the-icebreaker-imperative-with-peter-rybski/id910023979?i=1000680458681
