Osama Bin Laden is Dead

Yes, Osama Ben Laden is dead. Some justice. Heart felt thanks to those who made it possible and undying admiration for those that carried it out.

  1. Perhaps many people having no memory or personal reference to a similar death over forty years ago would have some elation about the death of OBL. The cold realization is that little will change just as nothing changed when Ho Chi Minh died a natural death in 1969. We too thought it was a good thing and even made up little ditties about it based upon a Disney animated movie music.

“Ding Dong Ho Chi’s Dead, Ding Dong Ho Chi Minh is dead.
Hi ho, the derry go, Ding Dong Ho Chi’s dead.”

Because of Ho Chi Minh’s popularity a cease fire was called for his death. Neither side kept it and the war went on. This war will go on here but this one is making Vietnam look simple and relatively cheap.

One of the more notable prophesies of Ho Chi Minh came from his knowledge of history. He noted that if the war took ten, one hundred or one thousand years, his side would emerge victorious. He was correct for the armed conflict but not in the socialism he wanted. The totalitarian government of Vietnam today has embraced the economic structures of the west just as China has.

Perhaps the various Islamic governments will take another look at their economic situations in the coming decades. The only reason the people in the Persian Gulf disliked Saddam Hessian in 1999 was because he was bad for business. He brought undue notice and strain to their local economies. We will not win the hearts and minds of Islamic people with our culture but we may with our banks. They respect the concept of trade. The trick is to find a method that makes terrorism unprofitable for the nation states and kingdoms.

  2. “Stillwell and the American Experience in China” by Barbara Tuchman will give a little different perpective on Uncle Ho.

Funny you should bring that little ditty up Bill, my wife teaches aerobics, and used the Disney version for warm-up music yesterday.

BZ Navy…makes me proud to have provided them adult supervision for so many years.

    • I may have been confusing my movies. I believe the ditty comes from the Wizard of Oz and refers to the Wicked Witch of the East.

“Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up – sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She’s gone where the goblins go,
Below – below – below. Yo-ho, let’s open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong’ the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
      Let them know
      The Wicked Witch is dead!”

Barbara Tuchman was a good writer but her work on Ho is outdated. Many more works have been done since.

  3. I was actually referring to Tuchman’s quotes from General Stillwell regarding his relationship with Ho, and their mutual admiration for Jefferson…kind of provides a whole new light on a bunch of ‘coulda’s’.
Nothing outdated about Vinegar Joe I hope.
