Deployable Operations Group to be Disestablished.

Navy Times is reporting that the Deployable Operations Group is to be disestablished and control returned to the Area Commanders.

Presumably this reflects both the reduced opportunity for TACLETs to deploy with Navy ships and a desire to make better use of these units in support of area units.

  1. Nothing new in the history of such groups. The Coast Guard Coastal Forces, also an “elite” group came into being because of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was a reserve function but it lasted about five years. The demise of the DOG is no great surprise. Will this mean the elimination of the flag?
