Defense Industry Daily takes a look at Canada’s long over due attempts to replace its aging fleet of DeHavilland DHC-5 Buffalo SAR aircraft.
The post also includes information on Canada’s SAR load and organization and several references to both the USCG and the C-27J procurement which is still a hot topic within the US Coast Guard.
The Canadian Air Force is reportedly raiding a museum to keep their SAR aircraft operational. Not that this sort of thing is limited to Canada. I recall getting parts from the museum ship USS North Carolina to keep our 5″ working on my first ship: http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-29224170

Down to three contenders ( C-27J Spartan, Airbus C295, and Lockheed Martin C-130J) and a decision expected in a year. http://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/defence-watch/canadas-fixed-wing-search-and-rescue-aircraft-contest-down-to-three-contenders
I would almost say go with the HH-130J that way the RCN can go with the SC-130J for the Orion replacement. Common training and supplies with the RCAF lowering the cost overall. Plus you would increase your overall number of large cargo planes overall . If not the Herc then the C-27J.
Apparently they expect to get bids soon. Update here: http://www.defensenews.com/story/defense/air-space/isr/2015/06/07/canada-search-rescue-aircraft-competition-lockheed-alenia-airbus/28382617/
