Federal News Radio has a short overview of the Coast Guard’s growing Cyber Command.
“…Congress appropriated almost $4.5 million for 64 billets in FY 17 to help generate the Coast Guard’s first cyber commands…”
That is certainly not a lot of money or people by government standards, but they have important work.
There was a cyber command at Ft. Meade a few years back, did they have a budget? Is this to bolster their command there?
From what I gather, the Coast Guard recognized a need for cyber and took billets out of hide to do it. Apparently this was the first line item to specifically address providing a cyber capability.
Interesting piece here on how hacking is being done. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/12/chinese-hackers-go-after-think-tanks-in-wave-of-more-surgical-strikes/
