An Observation on the “Big Beautiful Bill”

Can’t help but notice that while the Coast Guard budget is seeing a modest increase this year, I also see that the Immigration and Customs Service budget is suddenly going to be about 12 times larger than before, growing from $8B to $100B. That is about seven times larger than the Coast Guard budget and equal to more than a tenth of the entire DOD budget.

  1. The Defense Department is getting more money. Immigration and Customs is getting a lot more.

The Coast Guard was left out. I find that surprising.

    • Sadly I don’t find this surprising at all. Especially the massive ICE increase.

I have some other ideas but Chuck has ask to stay away from politics here, but other forums are on fire over several funding observations.

The CG is behind on maintaining vessels and shore side facilities and could use an increase.

    • Read between the lines! Under the DHS the USCG is a Regulations and Enforcement force, which can be utilized on Land as well as on Sea! Seems to me that DHS is reallocating USGG to perform more Land Security than actual Sea security…

  2. Now we know why OPCs were stopped, and the 11th NSC was canceled. Bad decision. The USCG mission includes border control on the seas. Big mistake!
