Since when is USN authorized to execute international law enforcement missions? No mention of any USCG involvement, which is odd
Well this sure could get interesting…..
During my time on the Gallatin, I got to know that area well. In fact, we even did some joint OPS with the Venezuelan Coast Guard back in 1989. It was a great, modern country back then and it’s a shame what it has devolved into today
For anyone who has done counter drug patrols in the Caribbean, we all know that this number of Navy ships is way overkill for simple drug interdiction. That does make you wonder just why they are all there. They show a good graphic of the deployed ships starting at the 6:50 min mark of the video.
I’ve been out for long time but I don’t think the volume of drugs coming out of Venezuela has ever been that big due to the longer transit times and distance. I could be wrong on that though.
While the Venezuelan people certainly deserve better, I sure hope we don’t get involved in that mess. Regime change and nation building sure do not seem to have worked out for us so well in the past.
I just don’t see that small open boat having enough fuel to reach the US or carry enough drugs to make the budget work. Keep also in mind that a normal crew for drug running that size of a boat would be 2 or 3 not 11. And in an open boat for that long a trip? Sorry I also don’t believe the part about being terrorists, just don’t trust this Admin, remember how many “terrorists” they have picked up from Home Depot parking lots and fruit pickers? How did they get the info that said they were “terrorists”?
Seems to me they should have stopped the boat then they might have had a few pounds of something to display, ask the Coast Guard how to stop the boats, they do seem to be doing a good job stopping boats without the big boom and then you have the evidence for the news cameras and the 5 o’clock news, the CG pictures of toms of drugs seized are impressive.
And as noted above regime change has worked out sooo very well in the past for us.
Also they are getting ready to send cruise missiles into Mexico.
Another way to reduce drug traffic into the US is reduce the demand, but I think we reduced drug rehab funding and the FBI and other law enforcement people that specialize in tracking down drug dealers and terrorists have been reassigned to patrol Home Depot parking lots and construction sites.
Sorry Chuck about some political content.
Yeah, the 11 people don’t ad up. given value per pound of the reported cargo, those people’s value add would primarily be if some of them were cargo themselves.
Since we did not capture the boat we will never know what she was carrying and we will never learn anything from interrogating the crew.
