RNLI–Royal National Lifeboat Institution

The RNLI is a volunteer charitable organization that provides life saving services to those in distress in the waters around the United Kingdom. In some respects, it is a counterpart of some of elements of the Coast Guard and the CG Auxiliary.

gCaptain posted a video of the RNLI in action. Some of their equipment looks very much like the Coast Guards, but you will also see them using equipment that looks more like a beach front lifeguard service including a surf board, a personal water craft, and a small inflatable dingy.

There is more information about the RNLI here.

    • That’s why I think the US Coast Guard Auxiliary should be modeled after the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The current Model the Auxiliary is running now is not doable in the 21st century. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has things that would make the US Coast Guard Auxiliary very jealous and envious of.

      • You aren’t a “participating” member of the Auxiliary so you wouldn’t know. It’s already the 21st century and the CG Auxiliary is strong with the Commandant pushing for higher standards and proficiency of Auxiliarists. The RNLI is a great organization, but different from the USCG Aux. since Great Britain doesn’t really have an equivalent to the U.S. Coast Guard.

      • @Guest Coastie
So you claim to be a member, what’s your sea time and what’s ur experience. At least I have the galls to participate in the Auxiliary unlike you.

      • Who gives a shit about either of your comments? No one wants to read this drivel.
Lets frame this discussion around commonalities instead of making it a pissing match?

      • I am not only a member of the active duty Coast Guard, I’m also a “participating” member of the USCG Aux as well, as my free time allows. 7 years sea time on 3 cutters, a 110, 210, and a 270′. I also served 4 years in the U.S. Army before enlisting in the Coast Guard, I’m now a BM1. I know that you’ve never been an “active” member in the Auxiliary, that’s why I take issue with your comments. I’d have no problem with you participating in these discussions if you weren’t pretending to be something you’re not and just admitted that you’re a novice. I apologize Chuck, I’m done with this topic. But Nicky, please tell us your real experience?

  1. Yes please. Nicky you have to be more specific, if you are going to be taken seriously..you need to say what you think should be changed and why.

And everyone please refrain from making personal attacks.

  2. Sir Chuck and BMC,

To add to these, The US COAST GUARD AUXILIARY and the PHILIPPINE COAST GUARD AUXILIARY have a strong relationship in the field especially exchange of communication and education, Being an Auxiliary Officer for almost 14 years and part of the International Affairs Directorate I have personally and have a hand on it on seeing the great relationship between the USCGA and PCGA develop. A MOU was signed in 2000 between the PCGA and USCGA it was upgraded to a national level in 2010. other than that The Philippine Hosted the first ever Asia-Pacific Conference on Mar safety and Environmental Concerns in March 2009- This was attended by Representatives from the USCG, USN, ThaI Navy, Australian Volunteer Coast Guard,Indonesian Armed Forces, PNP Maritime, PCG, PCGA , Vietnam,Royal New Zealand Coast Guard, IMO and IMRF. additionally, another strong bond exist between the PCGA and the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard. Further USCGA has also donated brand live saving equipment to Philippine fishermen sometime in 2000.
