The website for the National Coast Guard Museum Association, the organization developing the museum planned for New London, is up an running. You can find it here:
I have to say, I like the photo they chose to illustrate, “Respecting the past.”
Shouldn’t the museum have a Coast Guard slash and seal on it somewhere?
I still have a problem with the idea that it will be in New London, but looks like the decision has been made.
Whats wrong with New London, Ohio, 44851?
Yes, I know they don’t mean Ohio, but I had to click through several pages to find just which New London they were talking about.
What is the problem with New London?
Just think it a bit off the beaten track. Seems like DC, Boston, NY, even Cape May or Curtis Bay might get more traffic.
Totally agree.
I have never thought New London was the best place for it, but it is a good day trip by train from either New York or Boston.
I like this unsubstantiated claim, “While the United States Coast Guard is notable as the oldest life-saving service in the world,” What about the Brits and French? They had organized groups well before the Treasury Department. This brings up another point that the later USLSS was not part of the Coast Guard — and never was. The largest problem with making public history creditable is the use of accurate history.
That’s a fair reason.
“National” Coast Guard Museum? New London? Really? 40 people may come and see it. You’ll get more foot traffic if it were in Delaware. Can you say “Custard Flock?”
