The GAO report concluded that the while the Coast Guard does make efforts to promote commercial fishing vessel safety, including through conducting dockside exams, engaging with industry, and collaborating with other federal agencies, it has yet to fully implement 17 of 22 statutory requirements enacted over the 10-year timeframe.

And that’s why the USCG should be pushing the Auxiliary to do more in the CFVS. That would mean the USCG training more auxiliarist to do CFVS
Most of the Aux Maine safety PQSs should be redesigned to test all book knowledge through online testing then once that has been achieved they can work one-on-one with the AD on practical aspects. This would save AD time and present them with trainees that have already invested significant effort in the program.
