The Russian USV can be positively identified as an improved Orcan type. It was sunk by the Ukrainian Navy Sargan-3000 USV.
This may be a historic first. Naval News reports,
“For the first time in history, an uncrewed surface drone (USV – uncrewed surface vessel) has destroyed another USV in combat. The Ukrainian Navy Sargan-3000 USV, operating on intelligence from the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), interdicted a Russian attack USV in the Black Sea. The Russian naval drone was sunk.”
From the Coast Guard’s perspective, it seems this defensive use of a USV might be significant.
Based on some of the video, It appears the Ukrainian USV was probably directed to the target by an unmanned air vehicle.
How good is that. Just like playing Battleship. Is the future of USV like UAV where control is done someplace like Nevada?
