The Navy’s history and Heritage Commands notes that today is the anniversary of the transfer of the Coast Guard to the Navy Department. Nominally to enforce “neutrality,” it was in reality to prosecute an undeclared war against Axis submarines.

The Navy is surely not perfect. However it seems to at least be trying to hold it’s senior officers accountable over the past 5 years or so. 0-7’s have even been shown the door. The USCG could use a little of that.
Anyone know the % of officers above 0-3 each has AND the % of each who have lost their jobs due to performance issues in the past 10 years? Which service dopes a better job at policing its own.
(I wonder if an argument can be made objectively as to which service has the higher % of quality officers? Or which service has the higher bar?)
