Janes is reporting Singapore’s Navy has recently acquired some new boats that are different to say the least. The 22 meter (72 foot) vessels are intended for base defense, force protection, and maritime security operations.
Their remotely operated .50 caliber mount, the Oto Melara Hitrole G remote weapons station, is also interesting.
very stealthy, low height, but lightly armed, would seem to make a good interceptor? Like going after pirates in the Straights~
Looks like a miniature version of Lockheed Martin’s Sea Shadow.
I was thinking it looked like something from the American Civil War.
Wonder if all those straight lines make them cheaper to build.
If you look at the pictures in the linked article, it looks like the craft might experience some pounding as the boat pitches and the relatively flat areas under the bow slap the water.
Might want to think about how they will act when alongside another vessel. Fendering might be a problem with the sharp break at the side concentrating all the impact on the sharp edge at the side.
Not as fancy and futuristic, but the Finnish Navy is also in the process of acquiring new 65′ boats fitted with Saab TrackFire RWS:

Before the Navy order was publicized, I saw the unpainted prototype boat seen on that video on early sea trials while I was out on patrol with a SAR boat. We tried to catch it to take a better look, but our 840 hp was no match to their twin 900 hp engines…
A big difference is Singapore’s boat is not expected to carry any more than their 4 man crew.
Only 30kts. I was hoping for something a bit higher. 😦
In excess, so at least 30 knots, how much excess they are not saying, although you would expect them to brag more if it was substantial. Still there are lots of times when you just cannot use extremely high speed.
x, maybe you would like this better, http://www.bairdmaritime.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=17002:tuco-reveals-new-prozero-naval-interceptor-vessel&catid=73&Itemid=65
They are claiming 60 knots.
I have become a bit convert towards the idea of interceptors. I used to think high speed in the maritime sphere meant helicopters but there is a real niche for the quick boat. Stealth would bring some obvious advantages. Though I am thinking more in terms of “law enforcement” than warfare and not just interdiction.
Not stealth but fast…

A very different boat but about the same size, roughly 21 meters or about 69 feet. http://www.marinelink.com/news/delivers-belelle-patrol393964.aspx
These are built for the Maritime Service of the Spanish Guardia Civil, so the Brits may be seeing these around Gibraltar. They are both larger and faster than the HMS Scimitar and HMS Sabre that currently protect those waters there from aggressive Spanish incursions.
I was surprised to find out how “young” Maritime Service of the Spanish Guardia Civil is as n organisation.
As for being bigger and better than Scimitar and Sabre well I am told that we have the moral high ground and so don’t need anything more or to do more. There does come a time though when the moral high ground is just a naked conspicuous position which others can point and laugh at they go about their business doing as they want irrespective of what you think.
Nice boats.
As far as interceptors go, I’d rather operate a pair of these bad-ass twins. Customer is the Mozambique Coast Guard/Navy, through a somewhat shadowy private-financing initiative:
– 53 knot, 95t short-range monohull
– 30 knot, 90t long-range trimaran
